Please join us for "Meet the Next Chief" Virtual Forum in June 2020

CCE, in partnership with other local legal organizations, will be hosting “Meet the Next Chief Judge,” a forum for members of the public to hear from the judges who have applied to become the new Chief Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. This special event will be held virtually on an evening in early June as a Zoom webinar, generously provided by the D.C. Bar.

District Task Force on Jails & Justice Publishes Phase I Report on Future of Corrections in DC

The Phase I report, released November 2019, includes feedback from nearly 2,000 community members and leaders in the criminal legal field, as well as the input and expertise from its 26 members. The Task Force was convened by the Council for Court Excellence and their partners the Vera Institute for Justice and National Reentry Network for Returning Citizens.

Though the #MeToo movement first began in 2006 with activist Tarana Burke, it became a social media phenomenon in 2017, helping to spark a new wave of sexual harassment and assault disclosures. Today, #MeToo has left its mark on nearly every walk of American life – politics, business, Hollywood, academia, the judiciary, among countless others. And allegations are showing up in numerous ways, including news reports, social media posts, secret spreadsheets, or lawsuits.

The District Task Force on Jails and Justice, which CCE coordinates, is hosting a Town Hall on August 21 to give DC residents a chance to come and share their opinions and experiences with the Task Force members. CCE on the Kojo Show

On July 26, 2019, CCE's Deputy Director, Emily Tatro, was a guest on WAMU's Kojo Nnandi show. Ms. Tatro was there to discuss CCE's reentry work, the challenges that men and women returning from incarceration face in the District, and some of the innovative programs that are working to help returning citizens get jobs and build professional skills.
