Tamika Tremaglio, Deloitte’s Greater Washington Managing Principal, Named CCE Chair

CCE is proud to announce that this summer the Board of Directors elected Tamika L. Tremaglio, Deloitte LLP’s Greater Washington Managing Principal, as its new chair for 2018-2020. Tremaglio replaces the Honorable Sven Erik Holmes, the Vice Chairman, Legal, Risk and Regulatory, and Chief Legal Officer for KPMG LLP, who has served as chair since July 2016. Tremaglio has expressed excitement to return to CCE after being introduced to the organization early in her career.

CCE Sends Letter to U.S. Senators on Need to fill DC Judicial Vacancies

On Monday, July 30, Irvin Nathan, in his capacity as President of the Council for Court Excellence, sent a letter to select members of the United States Senate to encourage their action in confirming judicial nominations for the D.C. Superior Court and the D.C. Court of Appeals.

Misty Thomas named Council for Court Excellence Executive Director

The Council for Court Excellence's Executive Committee named Misty C. Thomas as CCE's new Executive Director. Ms. Thomas brings her years of experience representing indigent clients in both civil and criminal matters in the District and directing two legal reform non-profit organizations, to further CCE's vital mission to enhance D.C.'s justice system and ensure that all people who rely on our courts and government are served fairly and effectively.

Report on the DC Department of Behavioral Health and the DC Criminal Justice System

On February 26, 2018, the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor released a report examining the intersections of the D.C. Department of Behavioral Health and the D.C. criminal justice system. The Council for Court Excellence prepared the report entitled, "Improving Mental Health Services and Outcomes for All: D.C.'s Department of Behavioral Health and the Justice System."

CCE Launches the Fair Chance Business Pledge

The Council for Court Excellence and D.C's Department of Small and Local Business Development challenge businesses and consumers to take the "Fair Chance Business Pledge." This pledge represents a call-to-action for all members of D.C.'s private sector to improve their community by eliminating barriers for those with a criminal record who are returning home.

CCE Releases Beyond Second Chances Report

Through a review of previously unreleased data and a series of in-depth interviews with returning citizens and service providers, "Beyond Second Chances: Returning Citizens™ Re-entry Struggles and Successes in the District of Columbia," provides the most complete picture to date of the challenges that returning citizens face in D.C. and offers recommendations to help them succeed when reintegrating into their communities.

June Kress to Step Down in 2017

June B. Kress, D.Crim., has announced that she will step down from the Council for Court Excellence (CCE) after leading the organization as executive director for more than 12 years. Dr. Kress will continue with CCE through mid-2017 to ensure a smooth and successful transition for her successor.

Report on the DC Office of Administrative Hearings

On September 8, 2016, the Office of the District of Columbia Auditor released a report examining the statutory duties, management, operations, and performance of the D.C. Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), established in 2001 to increase the quality and fairness of administrative justice in the District government. The Council for Court Excellence prepared the report entitled, "Administrative Justice in the District of Columbia: Recommendations to Improve DC's Office of Administrative Hearings."
